Bad Bellingen
Comfortable 3-star holiday flats in Bad Bellingen
Black forest
Bad Bellingen is your gate to the Southern Black Forest. Come and experience it by yourself!
The name Black Forest goes back to the Alamannen. They called it: "Silva Nigra" - which means the black, dark and gloomy forest. At that time the Black Forest seemed to be quite an impenetrable, oppressive, and almost mysterious place.
Today the Black Forest is one of Germans most popular tourist attractions of holiday-makers from all parts of the world! The Black Forest is one of the most beautiful, most varied and romantic low-mountain ranges with countless possibilities for sports, hiking and swimming. The hospitality of the people living in the Black Forest and the variety of culinary dishes are famous far beyond its borders!
Bad Bellingen lies on the foot of the Southern Black Forest and offers a lot of possibilities for excursions. Only one stay is not enough to explore the beauty of this region!
Here you find a choice of excursions, that can be made easily from your holidy flat in Bad Bellingen:
The Schluchsee
With its surface of 500 hectares the Schluchsee is the largest lake of the Black Forest. If you feel like swimming, surfing, sailing or if you want to go boating you have a good choice: pedal boat or electrical boat. The Schluchsee offers a lot to everyone! In the summer small pleasure boats also operate between the shores.
Recommendable is a long hiking tour around the Schluchsee. The shores in the southwest are very calm and beautiful.
The Tittisee - Probably the Titisee got its name from the Roman general Titus. Today the Titisee is a very popular tourist attraction and offers various aquatic sports. The Titisee is a former moraine lake - a kind of natural reservoir, dating back to the ice age. With a length of 2 km and 700 metres in width the Titisee is the largest natural lake in the Black Forest.
The “Wutachschlucht” (Wutach Canyon)
The “Wutachschlucht” (Wutach Canyon) is a popular attraction among nature enthusiasts. A lot of animals and plants, that died out in other regions in former times, can still be found. You can discover more than 1200 rare species, 30 different types of orchids as well as rare mosses, ferns and herbs. A hiking tour of about 13 kilometres leads through the wildest part of the canyon.
Culinary Speciality
The “Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte” is a cream cake which has become one of the most popular cakes all over the world. The main parts of the cake consist of up to three chocolate flan layers, a filling made with cherries, steeped with “Kirschwasser” (cherry brandy), and with ample cream and chocolate-shavings as decoration. This speciality contains a huge amount of calories but it’s an absolute “must“. You shouldn’t miss it. You get this speciality in each cake shop!
The Belchen
In the Alemanic language "Belchen" is a name of a mountain, which has a rounded dome instead of a sharp peak. The Belchen (1414 metres) is the third biggest and most beautiful mountain of the Black Forest! Drive along the “Badischen Weinstraße” into the “Münstertal” and from there up to the Belchen. Enjoy the fantastic view from there: valleys in the Black Forest, the Alps and the Rhine valley and the Vosges in the distance.
In the early times people used to pray on the Belchen on the longest and shortest days as well as to the their sungod "Belenus. On those special days you can see the sun rising behind the Belchen in the Swiss Jura mountains. At the equinox the sun sets behind the Belchen in the Vosges (Vogesen).
A coincidence? Who knows! Come and find it out. Climb up to the Belchen on 21th December, 21th March or 23th September, to check this astronomical peculiarity. Numerous tracks lead to the top of the mountain.
The Black Forest cuckoo clock
The cuckoo clock was built in the Black Forest for the first time between 1730 and 1750. Decorated with carved fronts it was already a popular souvenir in the 19th century.
Unfortunately it is not possible to mention the many attractions and leisure activities that can easily be reached within an hour from Bad Bellingen. There is still more to see and to explore, for example the cathedral in St. Blasien and the Albtal , the “Schwarzwaldklinik” in the idyllic Glottertal, the Wiesental, the Blauen (mountain), Waldshut, Bad Säckingen, Todtnau, Schönau, Germany’s biggest waterfall in Triberg and ,of course, last but not least the Feldberg.
Motorcycle-, Bike- and car trips in the black forest area
Use your holiday flat to set off on wonderful motorcycle- bike- and car rides into the Black Forest and the Vosges. The “Badische Weinstraße” and the “Elsässer Weinstraße” can also be recommended for wonderful motorcycle rides.
Tip: Make a tour passing the Albtal, the Wehratal, to the Blauen or the Belchen. It’s really worthwhile.
